Fat Quarter Fun - By Karen Snyder - Book Review

Every quilter has a collection of fat quarters and every quilter is searching for the perfect design to use up that myriad of fat quarters.

"Fat Quarter Fun" by Karen Snyder delivers 16 quilt patterns designed to work with fat quarters. In fact the title "Fat Quarter Fun" gives you a hint the patterns are perfect for fat quarters. The author developed these projects to woo the quilter into using his or her stash of fat quarter bundles and to create that special quilt. Cutting and piecing instructions have been made easy. Fabric selection is also included. She describes the use of value and color intensity to help the quilter in his or her choice of fabric.

MS Snyder, also, offers 2 color options for each quilt pattern. Some of the views use contrasting fabrics while others show subdued fabrics. Also included in this book are layout options for the log cabin quilt. She gives you the choice of: "Streak of Lightening, Fields and Furrows, Barn Raising, Arrow, Or Dark with Light". These options are a great opportunity to be as creative as you like. What an opportunity.

"Fat Quarter Fun" out does itself with their cutting instructions. There is the traditional text version; stating clear, precise instructions. Then, MS Snyder goes a step further to show a visual cutting diagram. This gives the quilter both a visual and a verbal picture of the cutting procedure. Excellent idea. She uses this same idea in the "piecing block" section.

If you are challenged with creating a label for your quilt, "Fat Quarter Fun" provides a technique that is easy and fun to complete. Ms Snyder's instruction makes it possible for anyone to design a simple or even a fancy label. One could say: labeling made simple.

Instructional quilt books tend to put the assembly instructions at the end of their books. MS Snyder places complete construction details with each design. I liked this addition. Everything you need is right there with each pattern. This book puts it all together for the quilter in concise and easy terms. "Fat Quarter Fun" is a refreshing change to the typical quilt book. I am sure I will buy future books by Karen Snyder.

I tested the pattern "Funny Farm" and was completely satisfied with the cutting and piecing instructions. The quilt went together with ease. In fact, from cutting to assembly..this pattern took me about 2 1/2 days to construct. I am very pleased with the results and plan to remake it in a different color scheme. I, also, whant to make several other designs. Currently, under consideration is either "Fi Fie Fo Fun" or "Fun and Games".

I consider this book a welcome addition to my library and hope you agree.
