Feather Pens

Feather Pens can be a beautiful gift item given to somebody or can be used for decoration at home

. There are different types of feather pens available in the markets which are hot commodity among novelty items. Some feather pens seems feminine as they are adorned with pastels colors and rhinestones whereas there are other feather pens which looks masculine as they have leather cording and use natural color feathers. These pens have been in use since ancient times. Earlier feathers of Swan, goose or turkey were dried and cleaned and were used with ink made of herbal extracts for writing purposes.

These feather pens came into existence around 500 BC. Feathers of birds like swan, turkey were used because they had thick capillary and sucked more ink and were reliable. These pens were made by sharpening the tip of feathers and then splitting it in half. An alternative to feather pens were brushes made up of camel and mouse fur which were used by ancient Chinese and the material which they used for writing was silk. These brushes were very fine and comprised of few hairs which were added at the end of the rod. As time passed on people found ways of avoiding repetitive dripping of feather pen into ink and as a result modern fountain pens were invented. There are different ways by which beautiful feather can be made into pen and with little bit embellishments gifted to someone special.

Take a feather with unbent, long, wide and undamaged shaft. Cut its shaft slightly at an angle so that its straight across.

Now take a ball point pen and unscrew it and keep ink tube and pen nib separately.

Now insert ink tube in the shaft of the feather and push it up until it pen tip reaches the cut end. See to it whether tube has gone all way into the shaft and if necessary slit the upper portion of shaft so that tube goes all way in.

Now glue the pen tip to the feather and also cover cut area with glue to seal it resulting in feather securing to the pen tip and tube

Instead of taking ball point pen above fountain pen can also be used to make a beautiful feather pen. These pens look very traditional and authentic. Feather pens can be made up from long, wide unbent and varied colored feathers or modern pens can be turned into feather pens and can be given a pretty look by using feathers, rhinestones, gems and leather cords.

Now days there are plethora of feather pens model available in market which are imitation of authentic feather pens. There are also different kinds of pens available in market which are feather shaped fountain or ball point pens and are enjoyed by most of the people including students. These pens are quiet cheap and have many distinguished features like multi color ink; sparkle etc. These pens can be gifted on occasions like Christmas, special family celebration or even on birthdays.
