Are you afraid that people who may want to obtain your private information are listening
in on your phone calls? Is big brother watching you? Location Privacy versus Cell Phone tracking are very hot topics in the last few years. Federal e911 has mandated that your phone allows your location to be tracked in the event that you call 911 for an emergency which sounds like a great idea. The problem is, some individuals are claiming that their phones are giving out their locations all the time, instead of just in these situations. You can safeguard against this with certain phones. For example, some phones give you a choice of allowing your position to be seen at all times or just when you call 911. Some people are stating that most phones have their default settings set to report their location back to the company's center all the time.
If these users wish, they can change their settings to "enable location privacy" in their Preferences section. Although many people feel this should be a standard feature, it is not. In fact it is only a few phones that have this feature. I know that the iPhones have the ability to not only turn off the location feature all together, but you can turn it on and off for certain application that you have installed on the phone. That is a nice feature. Many phones are touting the tracking feature as a way to automatically tag a picture with the location that you snapped the shot. That might be a nice feature for some, but not all. Some people choose to announce their location only during an emergency call, but there are many people do not even think about this being an issue. Some people simply will not care, but there are many that view this as a violation of their privacy.
