Features And Applications Of Wireless Fidelity

Nowadays, we can connect to the Internet pretty much everywhere

. A lot of coffee shops, libraries, airports, and even hospitals now offer free Internet connection. But it could be such a hassle carrying around additional wires just to connect your own computer to this service. This problem can be answered by Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi).

Wi-Fi allows multiple users to connect to the Internet. With a router, the users can get connected to the local area network (LAN) wirelessly. With the router plugged into the Internet, users connected in the local network can also access the Internet, as long as you are within the range of the Wi-Fi signal.

Ever since the introduction of Wi-Fi, Internet has truly been made portable. With a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, you can surf the Net anywhere you are without having to plug in your computer to a LAN network. This makes this Internet browsing more mobile and convenient. And speaking of mobility, with Wi-Fi capable handsets, one can also surf the Net from their own mobile phones via the Wi-Fi network.

Mobile Internet through Wi-Fi has made high-speed Internet browsing possible for any Wi-Fi capable mobile phones. With a more reliable and faster Internet connection, the mobile phone now becomes the best choice for wireless Internet connection. Video streaming, downloads, webpage browsing and many other Internet activities may now be carried out with a mobile phone. Another benefit of the Wi-Fi technology is the voice call routed through the Internet. We have all heard about Voice over IP (VoIP) wherein analog voice signals are transformed into digital signal, sent via the Internet and converted back to audio signal upon reception. With Wi-Fi technology, the normal VoIP calls are made through mobile phones, and have gotten a better foothold. Wi-Fi has now provided a more steady, high-speed Internet service for VoIP.

VoIP usually needs a special application or software that allows mobile users to avail of such service. Users will be asked to register to the service and log in every time they want to use the service. However, a new platform has eliminated the need for registrations, it is called WiFi calling. Wi-Fi calling still uses the VoIP principle, the only apparent difference is, as stated above, the need for registration and log-ins is waived. You only need a Wi-Fi calling capable handset and the handset has a built-in application or software for Wi-Fi calling. When it is turned on, voice calls over the Internet are automatically activated, that means you can still make calls even when no cellular signal can be found.

Wi-Fi has indeed powered more and more advancement in hand-held technology. A lot of doors have been opened with the help of Wi-Fi and people will benefit more from the Wi-Fi technology.
