Whoever thought the Wall Street Crash was the kind of disaster that could never repeat itself was wrong. Really wrong. When the sub-prime mortgage crisis reared its ugly head a few years ago, billions of gasps were exchanges in a world-wide Chinese whisper.

The sub-prime mortgage disaster caused the global economy, give or take a few countries, to plummet to catastrophic lows. Economists, historians and political commentators were left scratching their heads: how did we not see this coming?

Austerity measures and strict new financial regulations are now being implemented to reinvent and rebuild the economy. These measures, though some would argue are necessary, are causing stress for low- to-middle income families. Is this, one should righty ask, fair? Most of us know which answer we would choose.

What can the family, now tainted with bad credit history, do to borrow money? Banks, on an increasing and unprecedented level, are refusing to give out loans as freely as they once did.
