One of the great things about Feng Shui is that you can utilize the principles just about anywhere

For example, knowing that natural light and fresh air is quite complimentary to your energy you might choose to take a seat near a window on a bus as opposed to sitting near the front exit for a quick exit when the time comes. You might also find yourself making mental notes while apartment shopping because you want to make sure that your next residence allows for Feng Shui principles to be put into place.

Don't limit yourself to thinking that Feng Shui can only be used for a house. It matters not whether you live in a large Victorian house or a small apartment, you will apply the basic principles the same way.

So as you go apartment shopping, here are some key principles to follow so that you can find a building, unit, or even a single room with the best possibilities for Feng Shui.

1. Start by determining the borders of your apartment. Feng Shui is all about balance. We will work towards establishing balance in your space.

2. Determine which Feng Shui elements are present in your space. The elements are wood, metal, fire, earth, metal and water. These elements all interact with each other to produce energetic results. You want to balance these elements for good affect.

3. Check the Chi flow throughout the rooms. Chi needs to be able to flow properly through each room. If a room is cluttered, for example, the Chi cannot flow properly and gets stuck in certain places. Furniture placement is very important to good Chi flow. Will you be able to properly place your furniture in the rooms in the aparment?

4. Decide if you can use mirrors to fix certain layouts. Many people like to use mirrors in small spaces to help make the room appear larger. If you can use a mirror to facilitate the flow of Chi, you can make up for certain layout short-comings.

5. Ask if you can color the walls. You can also transform or add energy in a room by using colors to your benefit. If you aren't allowed to paint the walls don't worry. You can add color by using accents in the lamps, pillows, candles and pictures that you use.

Now that you have an eye for applying Feng Shui to apartments, take a look at the other places you frequent such as your place of employment or your car and see if there are ways that you can enhance the flow of energy and harmoniousness within those areas too.
