Ferrari Ff: Styling & Aerodynamics

Designed by Pininfarina, the Ferrari FF styling is completely new

, modern, innovative, futuristic and stunningly elegant. The new V12 Ferrari represents a revolution for the Prancing Horse brand: an evolved modernity, a trend meshing of the third millennium and, at the same time, a classic style in line with Ferrari tradition. The FF combines compactness, subtle overhangs, soft rounded forms and an imposing muscularity. It is future and past at once: the very best of the past is alive in the unique architecture and design of this four-seater, which has been conceived to underscore the sporting stance and to tackle all weather conditions and road surfaces.

The new Ferrari FF"s extraordinary aerodynamic efficiency is the highest ever achieved by a car in its category. Simulations and wind tunnel testings have optimized the car external and internal air flows to guarantee the most efficient cooling possible of the running gear and, at the same time, to achieve leading edge drag and down force figures. The air that flows into the engine compartment exits through side vents that also lend the car"s flanks an aggressive yet sleek allure. The external architecture is exceptionally streamlined and aerodynamic. The engineers focused on creating a captivating, aggressive line by sculpting each area of the car with its function in mind, and with a conceptual minimalism that characterizes its forms and volumes. The air flows are channeled along curves around the tail-lights over the roof and the nolder to guarantee low drag.

Specific aerodynamic researches and numerous wind tunnel test sessions were lavished on the rear section of the vehicle. Air vents positioned beside the rear lights help reducing pressure in the wheel arch area whilst also reducing wake turbulence through the Base Bleed effect. The two air outlets on the bumper separate the air flow along the car"s side at the exact point that will minimize both the size of the wake and its depression. The rear diffuser, which optimizes air extraction from the underbody, has three channels and incorporates two new features. The first is an airfoil that boots its extraction capacity and down force at the rear of the car by using a slight curve in the middle channel. The second innovation is the concave curve in the side channels which ensures that the depression area remains uniform across the entire under-tray width. Designed to meet higher cabin comfort, superior space requirements and future safety standards, the FF"s chassis is also completely renovated.
