Ferrari Ki Sawaari Movie Review
Ferrari Ki Sawaari has many factors that make it watch-worthy Cricket
, Sachin Tendulkar, the common man connect, lots of Mumbai-isms and of course the devotion of the two-and-a-half-men, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and child actor Ritwik Sahore.
This simple story of simple peoples simple dreams leaves you with khushi ke aansu as you walk out of the theatre. However, amid the joys and tears theres a stark feeling that somethings missing in this joyride.
If you measure Ferrari Ki Sawaari with a typical Bollywood yardstick, it will fall flat. FKS neither boasts of A-List stars nor thrives on slap-stick comedy; it doesnt even have a heroine - yet it manages to keep you hooked by selling what Indian audiences love the most emotions. Each of the amiable character, makes such a connect that in no time you start relating to their woes and joys.
The film joins us with common threads of Cricket, our love for Sachin, friendship and last but not the least, money and the dearth of it - a feelingthat each one of us has felt at some point in time. The dialogue , Jiske father ki low salary ho kya uska beta life main high nahin jaa sakta hai? Jiski salary high hogi woh loan lene kyun aayega? says it all.
FKS is the story of three generations of a Parsi family - comprising of an embittered and grumpy Grandpa (Boman Irani), who is usually stationed in front of a TV set, his son Roosy or Rustom (Sharman Joshi), a virtuous RTO officer and a loving father with a smile cello-taped to his face throughout the film and his 12-year-old son, Kayo (Ritwik Shore), who is a budding cricketer. What happens next is a roller-coaster ride... err... Ferrari ride of situations and confusion all aimed at a common cause - send Kayo to a cricket camp at Lords.
It wont be wrong to say that the films simplicity is both a boon and a bane for the film. At times, the simplistic plot of the film comes to fore as predictable, while at others, the otherwise supporting and entertaining sub-plots (Whole track of Pakias wedding) begin to look unreal and stretched. But it seems, thats how the makers intended to make it sans any no complications, no expectations and no fear about its fate.
Talking about performances, Sharman Joshi gets most of his loving dad and doting father act right. It wont be exaggeration to say that he has actually lived the character embellished with perpetual smile and well-timed tears.
Boman Irani, adds another feather to his crown by playing the cynical Parsi old man with every grunt and twitch adding to his performance. Child actor, Ritwik, who at times looks like Sachin Tendulkars kid avatar, has done a marvelous job. He is commendable in the scene where he tries to console his father for not being able to go to Lords.
The supporting cast of the film deserves a special mention, for FKS wouldnt have been half good without them. The paunchy-funny Babbu Didi and Sachin Tendulkars servant and the watchman play their parts well.
Raju Hirani doesnt hit any boundaries with dialogue in the film, as theres no heavy-duty stuff but just witty liners and clean conversations. And thats exactly how common men talk. Pritams music is situational and the background score blends with the mood of the scene. If theres any dhamakedar number in the album it has to be Vidya Balans lavani.
Debutant director, Rajesh Mapuskar couldnt have asked for a more soulful debut and the man proves his prowess by making a film that has its head where the heart is! If only, the script was tauter and narrative fast, Ferrari Ki Sawaari would have been better.
Ferrari Ki Sawaari is a special film. Drop reason and logic for a while and watch the film for our two-and-a-half-mens performance and youll forget the flaws.
