India is a land of cultures, traditions and colourful festivals

. There are a number of famous festivals which are celebrated in India throughout the year. These festivals are celebrated in commemoration to religious, cultural, historical and coming of new seasons.

Festivals are celebrated in every corner of India by different communities. Many festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm in honour of their God and religious cult by the people of India. People cook yummy sweets, cookies and various other dishes, and also worship their Gods and Goddess heartily. On the occasion of these festivals, people wish their loved one and send gifts to the friends and relatives.

Major festivals in India are Diwali, Dussehra, Eid-ul-Fitr, Holi, Makar Sankranti, Onam festival and many more. These festivals are celebrated with great fervor, joy and devotion.

Diwali -


Diwali or Deepavali is the most popular festival across the nation from east to west and from north to south. There are many beliefs linked with the celebration of this traditional event. After killing Ravana, lord Rama came back to Ayodhya on the day of Diwali so the people of Ayodhya illuminated the lamps to welcome lord Rama.

Holi -

Holli is another religious festival celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs in India. It is a celebration of colours, spring time and togetherness. The main part of Holi festival is cheerful celebrations of going to the street in large groups, smearing each other with colored powders and colored water. It is also one of the great festivals in India.

Eid ul Fitr -

Eid ul Fitr is celebrated at the completion of the holy month Ramadan. During this festival, whole day one does not eat or drink anything including water. It is the festival of fast breaking and is one of the most famous Islamic festivals for Muslims. On the day of Eid ul Fitr, people dress up in new clothes and visit the mosque to offer prayers.

National festivals of India are Independent day (August 15), Republic Day (January 26) and Gandhi Jayanti (Ocotber 2), celebrated throughout the India by the people and the Government.
