Festive Flowers For Christmas
Christmas is quickly creeping up on us once again and as we prepare for the jolly
holiday season full of colour and decoration, this festive time wouldnt be complete without flowers. Flowers have long been associated with Christmas time, just as the iconic decorated Christmas tree has found a place in peoples homes for over 150 years. The flora of the festive period, which are an integral part of decorating and celebrating the holiday, show the traditional green, red and white colours of the season, from holly, ivy, mistletoe and berries to the Christmas rose.
When its crisp and cold or dull and drizzly outside, these flowers wonderfully decorate peoples houses with warmth. The Christmas feeling is exuded by the flowers of December; wreaths on the door, holly in the hall and a red amaryllis by the Christmas tree. The strongly inherited tradition of these plants is apparent in Christmas carols, childrens stories and famously included in seasonal songs such as The Holly and the Ivy, but many of these flowers also have historically religious significance and meanings relating to peace, love and harmony between people.
Some Christmas plants have a surprising history, such as Mistletoe, which in the past has been seen to represent peace and harmony, a symbol of fertility and at one time banned by the church! More recently some people believed that a kiss under the mistletoe would foretell marriage in the following year- not such a reliable indicator these days but the kissing tradition is still a fun favourite at Christmas parties.
A well worn tradition is also the giving of beautiful seasonal arrangements as a gift. Sending festive flowers someone special is a great way to let them know that you care. The power of flowers for Christmas is still very strong; they evoke the spirit of Christmas and bring a smile to the face of someone special.
Sending a special seasonal arrangement of flowers is easy, especially when you can ensure theyll arrive looking fantastic and in time for the celebrations. Colourful, traditional and dynamic arrangements of flowers are perfect as a Christmas gift or to stylishly decorate your own home.
