Fiesta Hatchback Headed Towards India?

Recent pictures of the 2011 Ford Fiesta hatchback testing near Chennai have been floated on the internet

. This has created a buzz among car enthusiasts who now believe that the car might just be getting ready for the Indian market. The Fiesta hatchback was being driven near Chennai without any camouflage and for company it had a white Ford Figo with black stripes sporting slightly different looking tail lamps.

Fiesta hatchback was launched in the US a while back and the car has been getting good reviews. Since, the Indian car market is a hatchback dominated one, bringing the Fiesta hatchback here does seem likely. However, there is no official word out in this regard yet.

Currently, Ford India is reaping gains from its latest offering, the Figo hatchback, that was launched a few months back and is at the moment facing a delivery backlog. Ford Figo has hit the bulls eye in India after years of the hatchback segment being dominated by Maruti.

The 2011 Ford Fiesta launched abroad has a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder unit capable of generating 120 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 112 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. It does the 0-100kmph sprint in about nine seconds.

The fiesta hatchback has a rigid platform and a MacPherson strut front and twist beam with coil spring rear suspensions. The car has an electric-power steering and a six-speed PowerShift. According to the EPA ratings, the car gives 29 miles per gallon in the city and 38 on the highway.

Apart from this, the car includes features like ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, front-side airbags and a driver knee airbag. A tilt and telescopic steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat and cap-less fuel filler are standard. It also has Fords Sync voice-activated control for cell phones and MP3 players, sunroof, keyless engine start, leather upholstery, and heated front seats.
