Figuring Out Problems With Your Printer
It's surprising that nowadays we still find people who have been using computers
for a long time still know nothing about printers and how to troubleshoot problems with them. Having worked in information technology for a number of years most problems I have come across with printers can be fixed easily. Sometimes it's just a matter of observing what is going on to give you an idea of what the problem is. In fairness, the technology in printers has improved over the years and we now see less and less problems compared to what we used to get.
You really come across some standard problems across the board that many people seem to just ignore because they are not really interested in fixing them. One of them major issues is paper jamming and if you have ever used a printer and sure you have come across this many times. Paper getting jammed in the mechanism of a printer can be very frustrating but can also easily be fixed. I remember coming across one company that seem to have this happening all the time with a brand-new printer. The problem was with the paper it was being stored in a damp and cold area and once we removed this the issue was resolved.
Other issues with paper coming we come down to ensuring that you have a good maintenance plan for all your printers. In large offices who have a high demand for printing I have come across this. It doesn't really matter how much there printer costs if it gets a lot of used parts will start to wear down over time. Ensuring that you have a maintenance plan to cover replacing simple little things like pick up rollers and fuser units can make a big difference to everybody involved. Many users become very frustrated when printing when they constantly have to fix paper jams. By ensuring that the IT department puts a good maintenance plan in place to replace these parts with maintenance kits, which by the way our standard will ensure that you have a printer that can do the job you are.
On a lot of printers they will have self test features which allow them to run a self diagnostics to see art or any problems. Having a little bit of an understanding of how your printer works can also make a massive difference simple little things like ensuring that their printer cartridges is sitting properly with in the printer as intended by the manufacturer can make a big difference. I have come across many cases where the correct position has not been done properly causing the printer not to work and a simple 2 seconds and it works again easy.
As I said a lot of issues with printers is observing what is going on. Other issues revolve around printer drivers which can cause a lot of problems with many people using computers. Generally most operating systems will comb the generic drivers which can be used to work with most printers. However, if the particular printer you have as many extra features or functions it may not work properly. Most drivers can be downloaded from the manufactures website they do supply this on disk when you purchased a printer but generally these always seem to disappear for some reason.
Hopefully this has given you a small idea of the kind of little problems that can happen on any printer as I have said most of the troubleshooting can be done by observing what is going on and if you have any further issues simply contact the manufacturer of your IT support to help you.
