Finacial Aid For Going to College
When trying to come up with the funds for college
, there is more than just the Federal Government to look to for financial aid. There is also state based aid that college aged students can apply for. Most states have grants available, and these grants come in various monetary amounts. The amount of a grant, first and foremost, is determined by the state's funding for educational aid. After this, the amount of the grant is then determined by the student's financial need. Some states have different grants for different types of degrees, and many different types of students. Some grants are given to students who have high grade point averages while others are given for students who are athletically or artistically inclined. There are scholarships for students who are part of minority groups and students who may have a disability. Most States have grants designed for students attending college in that state.
In 2009, states in the United States provided over 10 billion dollars in aid to needy students. Every state has different guidelines for providing aid to students. Some require that the student reside in the state as well as go to college there. Some states actually provide more funding to students who are coming from out of state to attend a college or university in their state. Normally, if a state provides aid to a student residing in that state, the student must go to a college or university in that state, but not all sates insist on this rule. Be sure to check with your local state's department of education to make sure you are clear on the regulations pertaining to your aid. State based financial aid can be included with federal based financial aid, to ease the financial burden that higher education can put on students and their parents.
