Finally Getting Your Garage Organized
There are many rooms in the home that tend to be overlooked for one reason or another
. For example, a lot of the smaller rooms that we tend to call closets are overlooked because they are out of the public eye. We may use them to put a variety of different items out of the way, and since nobody tends to look in our closets, we may allow them to get disorganized. The same is also true of the garage, and unfortunately, a lot of wasted space occurs because the garage is used for storage improperly. What can you do if your garage has gotten out of hand and there is no longer any room for storage left?
The first thing that you need to do is set aside some time to work on the garage on a daily basis. Although it may be a good weekend project, there is also something to be said for working on the area for an hour or two daily until it is done. If you are able to chip away at the disorganization, you might be surprised with how quickly things began to change. It certainly can be motivating after you have been in there for a day or two and recognize that you are making some headway.
It also helps if you organize your organizational project. It is not typically a good idea to simply jump in the middle of the project and work at it in every direction possible. Go about it systematically, working from one corner around the exterior of the garage until you reach the corner again. This is not only going to help you to organize things as you go along, it can be motivational in itself. After all, you will be able to look back at the work that you have already done and see what progress you have made. It will also help you to have some working room so that you can move around and don't feel hemmed in as a result of the disorganization.
Garage organization would also require you to have certain items place to keep things as organized as possible. For example, a pegboard can help you to stay organized on either a large or small scale. Pegboards are very popular in garage areas because they can help you to keep your tools organized. There are also some specialized pegs that you can purchase which can help keep larger items up and out of the way. If you utilize them properly, they will make it easier for your overall organizational project to get completed.
Finally, resolve yourself to throw away items that are no longer needed. Of course, you could sell those items at a yard sale or on eBay, but that is going to take some time that may be better spent elsewhere. If it is something that has not been used for a long time and is not going to be of interest to anyone else, it is time to get rid of it. This can be very liberating, and once you get started, it will be much easier to keep going.
