Find Best Niche Markets - A Guide to Sourcing the Best Online Niches

For affiliate marketers looking to make money online, one of the most important questions to ask is which niche will work best and make the most profits. But before we get ahead of ourselves, I think it's best to define what we mean.

What is a niche?

A niche is typically a sub-genre of one of the many markets. The more distilled the niche, the easier it is to find opportunities to make money as there is a very specific audience with a very refined need (we're talking sub-sub-sub-genres!). For example, let's take the golf market. What would someone interested in golf be looking to buy? A book on how to golf better? Possibly, although as with most things, doing is more fun than learning. Maybe "golf gloves" is the best keyword here?

Ok, so we have a product, but the niche is still WAY too broad. Think about the end user. The average person typing in golf gloves is not necessarily looking to find products to buy. They may want to find reviews in order to get information for a future purchase, or they may simply be looking for information on brands. Heck, it may be some school kid writing a report on the market! You can write as many articles linking to the best blog posts about "golf gloves" as you like, but the chances of your hard work coming into the path of anyone who is actively looking to buy are small.

The key, again, is to think about the end user. What might their handicap be? Do they have anything physical they need to think about when playing? What brand might they want to buy? We can soon narrow this niche down tob the best sub-genres that are more likely to buy from us. "Golf gloves for women" is a good one, but "golf gloves for left handed women" is an even better find and more tailored. A quick optimised check on Google finds how much competition? 1 result. There should be no problem getting on the first page after writing an article about "golf gloves for left handed women".

OK, so that's the best way to narrow a niche down. But how do I FIND one?

What is one of the best ways to learn about markets that people are buying products in? Go to the mall perhaps? Here we find a string of people each looking to buy something. Of course, going to an ACTUAL mall can be a pain, but you can do the same thing online and save heaps of time.

Looking at the top searches on Shopping.com is a great way to find out what people are buying. Amazon is also one of the best and has handy reviews to help you find products that people are recommending the most. Once you have a niche in mind, hit the forums. These are a great way to talk to people and find out what they like, what's not working for them, everything.

Check your local store as well, specifically the magazine rack. Chances are that if there is a magazine based on your market, there is a niche within it that can be targeted. All that has to be done then is finding the relevant affiliate programs and you're good to go!

Anything else?

If you are still finding this hard, there are a number of niche-finding kits and pieces of equipment that can be bought that will scour the markets for you. Some of these tools are really handy, although to be honest, I would suggest doing that you find keywords yourself until cash starts coming in - then you can invest a little money in your business instead of your time!
