, Maurice Lacroix. Although their history starts back in 1961, it was not until 2001 that Maurice Lacroix ladies watch were truly recognized. Despite the company's young age, they have come to be known by their splendid displays, specifically their retrograde models.
Maurice Lacroix began in 1961 in Saignelegier, which is a municipality of the Canton of Jura in Switzerland. Over the next 14 years the company grew from a private distributor in Switzerland to launching their first model in Austria. After their initial expansion into Switzerland's eastern neighbor, Austria, a growing market in Europe began to emerge.
After the acquisition of Austria as a new client of Maurice Lacroix watch for men, many other countries soon followed suit. In 1976 the watches were introduced in Spain, while in 1980 a distribution company was set up in Germany. Throughout the years of 1976 to 1987, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Australia all became new targets for Maurice Lacroix. In 1989 Maurice Lacroix then gained the location in Saignelegier as a permanent casing company.
After success in several different countries and an influx of profit, the company was able to secure a permanent casing facility in Saignelegier. With this acquisition Maurice Lacroix would be able to maximize income and use such profits to expand into more countries. Maurice Lacroix used the abilities of their new facility to expand their clientele to the international level.
In 1989 and 1990, the Far East, as well as the South Pacific Region of Asia and the Near and Middle East, were introduced to Maurice Lacroix watches. With the acquisition of Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and a growing business in the Near and Middle East, Maurice Lacroix had slowly become a major watch manufacturer. The growing popularity of Maurice Lacroix watches led to further development of facilities.
The early and mid 1900's witnessed the modernization of the Saignelegier facility. Throughout the history of Maurice Lacroix, the Saignelegier facility would undergo many renovations. Soon after, Maurice Lacroix would be viewing the United States as a new client of their watches. Over the next few years Maurice Lacroix increased the size and distribution of previous facilities due to the increasing demand of international clients.
In 1999 the Saignelegier facility was expanded for the 2nd time. In 2001 it once again saw improvements done to it as Maurice Lacroix officially had its own legal identity. Soon after expanding its Saignelegier facilities for the third time, Maurice Lacroix sought to open subsidiaries elsewhere.
In 2002, a subsidiary was founded in the nation of Great Britain. The year 2006 saw Maurice Lacroix finalizing the steps needed to become a solely manufacturing brand. The Memoire 1 was launched in 2008 and was said to be the first mechanical watch with a memory function.
