Find Out More About The Bt Digital I Plate
The BT Digital I Plate is a recent invention; it is a piece of technology which BT claims enhances the speed of internet connections
.
Broadband connections can be affected by interference from other electrical household appliances which are close by such as lighting, refrigerators, televisions etc. The BT Digital I Plate is a device which has been created to stop or certainly reduce this type of interference.
The idea is that the plate acts as a filter which blocks out these unwanted electromagnetic emissions which are the cause of interruption to the main circuit.
With this device in place it is then suggested that the broadband system can run much faster. In BTs initial tests of the product it was said to increase the internet speeds by up to 1.5 megabits a second. In some cases it was even more successful than this with the highest improvement being an increase of up to 4 megabits a second.
The I Plate is a small white plastic device which attaches to the master phone socket at the wall. This is the socket where the telephone line comes into the property. Broadband users need to have a BT NTE 5 socket which BT estimates that around 7 out of 10 homes in the UK have. It works by singling out the bell wire which runs into the house. This wire was originally used to make phones ring but since then technology has advanced and this is no longer the case. This wire picks up interference so by isolating it the I Plate can stop this from happening.
Fitting the I Plate is very simple. First double check that you have the correct type of socket, the NTE5 has a removable bit of plastic at the front and a BT logo; there are different types so search online for images of the socket to be sure. Once you have checked this out there are two screws which need to be removed. Pull the plastic cover plate forward and place the I Plate into the middle. After this the screws need to be replaced and your I Plate is set and ready to go.
With every internet package the speed of the broadband connection is always advertised as a speed up to a certain limit as it always varies depending on the location, connection and interference within different households. You can check your actual current broadband speed on a couple of specialized test sites online.
