Finding A Job: Whose Rules?
Have you ever felt like giving up your search for a great job and just settling instead
? It may seem like there just aren't that many opportunities out there for you. If you look at the situation another way, however, a job search can be a great experience. Motivation and dedication are two keys to securing your ultimate job.
Applying for jobs is a process that many people are familiar with: search the classifieds, send in a resume and then hopefully go in for an interview. Waiting to find out if you've been hired is just another step in the process. Does this process really work for you? Here are a few tips to improve your job search.
Don't react, create. Finding open jobs is easy if you check the newspaper. Anyone can do that. On the other hand, it's not often that job-seekers call a business that isn't advertising a position. With this approach you can potentially find out about brand new openings or just sell yourself for future reference. Remember to read up on the the company's current issues. An employer may realize that you're a good fit to immediately deal with those issues.
Basic guidelines aren't set in stone. Minimum requirements lists are not always rigid. For some positions these specifications are important, but for others they are just guidelines. Don't hesitate to apply even if you don't exactly fit the mold. For one thing, all companies will teach you their particular way of doing things. Just like the company tells you what it wants, you can tell employers what you have that they may need.
Think outside the box with old methods. The most important part of a job search is making sure you maximize your potential. Searching online and offline is important to be able to find the most opportunities. Think about ways that you can distinguish yourself from other job-seekers and at the same time network with potential employers and colleagues.
To find a job you have to assess your own individual needs. The key is to use strategies that get results for you. If you think creatively and go on the offensive, you greatly increase your chance for success.
