Utah is best known for its winters. The dry climate mixed with low winter temperatures make for a perfect day on the slopes.
Always light and puffy, the snow is some of the best on earth for skiing and snowboarding. The most well known arena of skiing and snowboarding in Utah would probably be Park City.
Park City is one of the greatest destinations in the world for winter sports. In fact, the snow found there is so supreme, it was made the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Also found here are terrain parks, where avid skiers and snowboarders can practice to the extreme. Whether you are working on getting air or learning how to grind on rails, it is a playground for those seeking a challenge.
Located in Park City is the Utah Olympic Park. Here, visitors can watch or participate in events usually part of the Winter Olympics. These include ski jumping, luge, and bobsled, to name a few.
Your family or group can receive instruction on how to participate in these events. Most of the sports are only available during the winter time, except for the bobsled, which is also available to try during the spring and summer months.
The excitement does not stop at the Olympic Park. Park City Mountain Resort also has plenty to offer when it comes to adventure.
The alpine slides there are a fast paced ride downhill. For those not squeamish when it comes to heights, there is also one of the highest and longest zip lines in the state of Utah.
During the month of January, Park City is home to the Sundance Film Festival. At this festival, screenwriters, actors, directors, and producers gather to show new projects and make connections.
This is an exciting time for Park City. Many visitors come to the festival just to try and get a glimpse of some of their favorite actors and famous personalities.
Those that are there to showcase are able to try out their films on audiences. If they are lucky, they may even win an award or get a bid for their film.
There are also parties and events that go on during the festival. It would be a shame for anyone interested in film and cinema to miss being in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival, if only to view a film or be around the creativity that is found there.
There are also other music and arts festivals that take place throughout the year in Park City. Artstravaganza, a festival during the month of August, is a collection of musicians and artists hoping to share their craft with fans and visitors alike.
For those that are more interested in outdoor adventure, the national parks of Utah offer beauty and a plethora of activities. One of the most notorious of these parks is Zion National Park.
Zion was originally settled by the Anasazi tribe, and later settled by pioneers from the Midwest. The canyon is a hiker's dream.
Probably the most well-known hike is Angel's Landing. The trail is steep and somewhat strenuous.
At points during the hike, the trail gets so narrow that those attempting to reach the summit must hold on to a rope chain for safety. However, the trek to the top is worth it when you behold the magnificent view of the entire canyon.
Outside of Zion National Park in the city of St. George lies the Tuacahn Theater. The plays and musical acts that come to perform at the Tuacahn throughout the year do so in an outdoor amphitheater, nestled within the gorgeous canyon next to a river.
Lovers of the arts should not miss seeing a show or performance here. The adjacent river is occasionally diverted onstage to be used as a live prop during shows and concerts.
With all of its canyons and outdoor splendor, Utah is a Mecca for rock climbers. Those interested in extreme sports can try climbs in Arches National Park found in Moab, Zion National Park, and in American Fork Canyon.
Those interested in shopping should head to Salt Lake City. There, you will find the Gateway, a massive center of high end shopping and delightful eateries.
The possibilities of entertainment are endless in the Beehive State. Plan a vacation to Utah any time of year, and you are sure to have an adventure!
