Finding Cheap Seoul Flights When Visiting South Korea by:Marc Harris

Seoul, the capital and largest city of South Korea

, has become a favorite destination for American travelers. This ancient city combines all of the modern conveniences of the 21st century with a large amount of ancient and historic places. The Korean people have put great effort into preserving their culture and history while at the same time managing to gently move in to the future. Americans will be amazed to find world-class commerce happening just a short distance from an open air market or an ancient shrine.

Most repeat visitors know that traditionally the best time of the year to visit Seoul is in the spring and autumn as the summer months tend to be both hot and wet and the winter months can be very cold.

A major attraction for many visitors is Korean food which is an under appreciated cuisine and has not gained the attention it so well deserves. The local Korean cuisine has many distinctive tastes that are easily identifiable by even the least experienced gourmand. There's sesame oil, garlic, ginger, fermented soybean paste, soy sauce and red pepper powder which are applied to many types of meat, specifically beef, pork, fish and chicken. Probably the most famous of Korean foods is kimchi which is generally made with Chinese cabbage or radish that has been preserved with various spices including red hot pepper powder and pickled fish sauces. Kimchi is the country's staple food and is served at most meals.

Seoul is undeniably a city of culture, and as such it houses many world-class museums. Most notably among these are the National Museum of Korea, considered the flagship museum of Korean history and art, and the National Folk Museum, which uses replicas of historical objects to illustrate the folk history of the Korean people.

Seoul has many grand modern hotels, as well as a superior public transportation system. Recently the city has become a major transportation hub to reach eastern Asia due to its connections to Japan and China via their ultra modern Incheon International Airport (ICN). The city center is about 30 miles from the airport and it should take about 75 minutes via a limo bus to get to your hotel. Express buses and taxi's will take about 50 minutes.

Before you start planning your next trip, be sure to check the State Department's web site to view the consular info sheet for South Korea.
