Finding Eco Friendly Community

Sustainability is a big deal, even to people who don't think in those terms

. We all need sustainable solutions for our future. We all want to think that our choices will support our continued success in the future. So, when it comes to eco friendly community, it should be no surprise that there are more and more options out there. Many people start out by looking for eco friendly homes. Asheville and other areas like it have a lot of green building, sustainable technology and permaculture and edible landscaping offerings, from classes to homes that are ready to move in to. While plenty of people are looking to rehab their own home, others are looking to buy or build from scratch. Some are even looking for eco friendly community. Asheville and the surrounding area has plenty of eco community options to choose from, depending on your specific interests.

It used to be that when people thought about such communities that communes where the main option. Living the group life amongst other hippies with similar ideals might have been what a lot of people were hoping for a few decades back, but fortunately today there are many, many more options. There are intentional communities organized around sustainability that don't have much hippie to them, but rather a progressive moving-towards-the-future feel that many professionals can understand and get excited about. That isn't to say that you have to be either a hippie or progressive but rather than there is quite a range. Some people are interested in more of a farm-type reality where sustainability is achieved via a community on land that produces a great deal of their food while other people are more interested in energy independence and that sort of thing.

If you are looking to head out in search of the eco community that best fits where you are in life and where you hope to go it will be important that you make a list of the most important qualities that you are hoping to find. Those could include anything from a larger point-of-use solar hot water heating system, community gardens, certain green building certifications, a sense of close community, a large and private homesite and more. Once you know what you are looking for it will be much easier to eliminate those places that would not be a good fit. The more clear you are about what you want the more likely you are to find it.
