Finding Freelance Work on Twitter
Freelancers tend to be resourceful when it comes to finding new work. Whether you're a freelance writer, graphic artist, photographer, or any other type of freelance business professional, Twitter may be the source for your next project. The two main ways to find work on Twitter are: letting business come to you and searching for business opportunities.
Finding Freelance Work by Letting Business Come to You
This is the more passive approach of the two. However, people needing your services won't find you unless you take an active approach in building your brand and letting people know what you do. If you're a writer, tweet about your writing services from time to time. This doesn't necessarily mean tweeting "I'm a writer and I'm available for all of your writing projects." Instead, try tweeting, "I'm working on a website content writing project for a client and love it." This puts your keywords out there and shows your enthusiasm. It may also entice a potential client to contact you to see if you're available for a new project. Continue tweeting each day using keywords that someone needing your services might enter as they search for a freelancer and make sure that your Twitter profile communicates your brand.
Finding Freelance Work by Searching Twitter for Business Opportunities
If you've never used Twitter's search feature, now's the time. Sign into Twitter and locate the Search bar. It's located in the black bar at the top of the Twitter page. Enter a search term (such as "hire a freelance writer") and press the enter key. You'll see the most current tweets that match that search term. While some results may be from RSS feeds or irrelevant, you might come across a few real opportunities. Browse through the list and see if any tweets sound promising. If you find any that appeal to you, respond to the original tweeter and offer your services.
Twitter also has a "Save this Search" feature. Go ahead and save your search and plan on revisiting it anytime you want to look for freelance work. In the future, simply click the down arrow next to the "Searches" link and choose your saved search. You'll then see the most current matches for your keyword phrase.
This is an excellent way to find potential clients with an immediate need that you can fill. Since you've also taken a proactive approach in building your brand, the original tweeter can quickly view your Twitter profile and see that you're a good match and serious about offering top-notch services.
