Finding Good Role Models Today

In today's society there are a lot of people that are worried about the role models that are most popular

. These role models come in many different forms.

For many children pop culture is where all of the role models come from. If you take a closer look at the values that these role models are instilling you may be surprised.

Whether you are looking at the athletes or the actors and actresses there are many explicit and implicit values that are being perpetuated. Often times drugs, sex, alcohol and violence are promoted through these role models.

There have been many professional athletes that have come out to tell the public that they have had extra-marital affairs. Sometimes they will come out with an apology and other times they will leave their family to be with the person they cheated with.

There are rappers and many other musicians that promote violence and the use of drugs. When your child is listening to his or her headphones make sure that you know what words they are hearing.

You may be surprised at what you hear. Taking the time to understand what the music is saying will help you know what ideals are being promoted.

There are many parents that have taken this matter into their own hands. If you are looking to find a new role model for your children there are many people out there that they can look up to.

Looking for new role models for your children may be a little more frustrating than you would think. Your children may not be as excited as you are about finding a new role model.

If you are looking to keep your child out of trouble and help him or her have a realistic view of morality you will want to instill some type of passion in them. Working with your child to find what they are passionate about may take some time.

There are more and more children that are finding their passion in science. There are many different parts of science that your child could become passionate about.

If you want to instill a passion for the sciences you should start when they are young. Take time to explain the forces of nature to your children.

You can even do science experiments with your children when they are young so that they become interested and excited in the sciences. The majority of these experiments are easily done and require nothing more than the everyday items that are around your home.

You can explain certain phenomena and incite a passion for knowing what is going on if you are able to show them experiments that can explain phenomena. For instance, you can perform an experiment with your children to explain why things glow in the dark.

The supplies that you will need for this experiment are simply a black light, some petroleum jelly and a single piece of paper. If you do not have a black light you can find one at your nearest superstore.

Tell your child to dip their finger in the petroleum jelly and write a message on the piece of paper. They can write their name, a single letter or an actual message.

Make sure that the petroleum jelly is not too thick, so that you can't see it in the light. This will make the experiment much more explanatory.

After your child has finished writing their message turn off the regular lights and turn on the black light. Your child will then be able to see the message that was written on the paper and previously not visible.

Ask your child if he or she has any ideas about why the black light does this to the petroleum jelly. More than likely they will not have any idea.

You can then explain to them that a black light is called a black light because the majority of the light that they emit is not visible. Why then can we see the jelly?

Explain to your child that there are things called phosphors in petroleum jelly. These phosphors absorb radiation and then emit the radiation as visible light.

This means that they absorb the invisible ultraviolet radiation that the black light emits and then the phosphors themselves emit visible light. After your child understands what is going on you can ask them to find more objects that emit light.

Although this is a simple project there are many benefits that come with working with your children. You will grow closer to your children and also give them the role models that they will need to be successful.
