Finding Real Estate Employment In Pittsburgh

Although the nation as a whole has had a few rough years in the real estate market

, there are more and more signs indicating that the worst is over and that better days are ahead. This can especially be felt in major metropolitan areas like that of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With the increasing amount of buying and selling activity in both residential and commercial real estate, those individuals looking for real estate employment opportunities in Pittsburgh will be happy to see the growing demand.

Where To Get Started

As with most jobs, the first step in working in the real estate field is to look at all the typical resources that provide available employment opportunities. The traditional choice has always been the newspaper, but the Internet provides far more options. There are countless websites where people can search for employment in Pittsburgh realty companies, including Monster.com and Craigslist. Two other less obvious tactics would be to contact the real estate offices directly, or to go to their websites and look for further information on starting a career in real estate.

Not Your Average Job

Unlike other jobs that can be started once a person is hired, the real estate industry is slightly more complicated. In order to buy and sell real estate in the Pittsburgh area, not only does an individual need to be licensed, but he or she also needs to become a member of the National Association of Realtors and RAMP (Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh).

Securing Real Estate Employment:

1. Finding a real estate company and meet with the manager.

The turnover ratio in real estate sales is greater than average, and so most Pittsburgh realty companies are constantly on the lookout for new faces to join their teams. Once a person has found a company that he or she would like to work with, the first thing to do is talk to the real estate manager. He will present a realistic picture of both income potential and the work needed to make that income. The manager will also detail what needs to be done in order to secure a position at the real estate company.

2. Going Through The Required Training.

In the state of Pennsylvania, there are two classes that need to be attended before attempting to take the licensing exam. The mandatory 60 hours of training are broken up into two classes: Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practice.

3. Taking Your Licensing Exam.

After the necessary training as been successfully completed, individuals are now able to take the real estate licensing exam for Pennsylvania. The test is multiple choice and covers real estate principles and real estate laws. Currently, the fee to take this exam is $56.

4. Getting Sponsored.

Passing the Pennsylvania real estate licensing exam is not enough. In order to be able to assist others in buying and selling of real estate, individuals who have passed the licensing exam need to find a real estate company to sponsor them. This is generally the same company that provided the career information initially.

5. Obtaining The License.

The next action to be taken is completing the real estate license application. Along with this form (that needs to have the signature of the manager of the company that is sponsoring the prospective real estate agent), copies of the completion of the required 60 hours of training and proof of passing the licensing exam must be included and mailed to the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission.

6. Becoming A Realtor.

Once the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission has issued the individual his real estate license, he then is able to join the National Association of Realtors and RAMP. There are annual fees for joining both organizations, but this can be seen as just part of the business since most trustworthy and legitimate real estate companies require that their salespeople be members of these two associations.

The improving real estate market is a great sign for those looking for real estate employment opportunities in Pittsburgh. Although there are a few hoops to jump through, the potential earnings are well worth the effort.
