Finding The Right Dress For Your Daughter

As a parent, there is a fine line that you need to walk when it comes to picking the right dress for your daughters upcoming school dances

. Why is there a line? Because your idea of what she should wear to the dance will typically differ from what she wants to wear. While she might be looking at short prom dresses for a dance, you may have something more, well, covered in mind. The thing is, shes probably at the age where she thinks that she knows everything about what she should do and what she should wear. Conversely, in her eyes, you are at the age where you dont know anything and are trying to destroy her in the eyes of her friends. The truth is, though, you only have her best interests in mind, especially when it comes to wearing items that wont get her a reputation at school.

So how do you find that line for dresses? Its going to take some communication. Who knows, she may surprise you and pick a dress that is surprisingly conservative in the amount, as well as where, it covers. On the other hand, she may have a dress in mind that shows a lot more than you would ever want it to, or that she should be showing at a school function. If something like that occurs, the best thing for you to do is to take a deep breath and just stand your ground. Dont just fly off the handle and over react to the situation, simply state that she is going to have to make a different choice. While she may sit back and react badly to you saying no, the key is to work with her to find a new dress. Dont simply state that she has to go back to the rack and find something herself.

Working with your daughter to find a dress that works for both of your needs is a great way to make sure that everyone gets what they want. Its unrealistic to expect her to know what kind of dress you have in mind for her, just like it unfair for you to send her back to look for other dresses without helping her with the search. The key is to have her find a dress on your own, one that you approve, so that she can feel like she got the dress that she wanted, as well as one that works for what you want in her dress.
