Finding The Right Training That Will Benefit Everyone

A six sigma green belt has two basic tasks. The first of which is to help implement six sigma techniques, while the second is to lead small scale projects in their a section. Green belt training teaches enhanced problem solving skills, targeting definition, measure, analysis, improvement and control, or DMAIC. This focus enables the green belt to work on small projects as carefully defines within six sigma guidelines. A focused and competent green belt allows the black belt to concentrate on the larger six sigma picture throughout the entire organization.

In a word, six sigma green belts are support, and are responsible for doing the legwork, gathering the data and initiating experiments for the black belt project. Six sigma green belts spend a quarter of their time working their own projects or in support of the larger black belt projects, employing six sigma problem solving methods and statistical tools.

Six sigma green belts can and do function in any industry or environment. The specific training includes but is not limited to; communicating business strategy to the rest of his or her organization, how to integrate improvements, how to apply the DMAIC process, how to choose successful six sigma projects and project teams, how to plan and execute projects, how to boost profitability through six sigma projects, and which statistical tools work for which types of projects.

Six sigma project support players is just another way of describing green belts. If your aspirations are greater than this and your goals include taking the leadership project reigns, you are more likely to excel in the position of black belt within the six sigma training programs. Green belts never aspire to this level. They are very content on being "team players" because their personality type wouldn't be a good fit in the role of leadership.

Six sigma green belt projects are good for workers who desire to be part of a team that consistently works to improve quality in their work environment. But before seeking six sigma green belt certification you should determine if there is a purpose for your training. In other words, ask yourself if your company really needs a person with your proposed skill set. If the answer is "yes" then go for six sigma green belt certification. If the answer is "no" then maybe you should consider changing careers or maybe consider a different level of six sigma training.
