Finding Work As A Professional Tribute Artist

I thought I would write an article about working as a professional tribute artist

, many people ask me various things like how to find work, finding agents, promotion and so on.

Firstly, I will talk about the big question most people ask, finding work! It really is not that difficult if you have a few things on your side. You need to have a decent voice and be able to sing a number of songs, not just one or two, most tribute artists need to be able to perform at least up to a one hour set.

The second most important thing you need to ask yourself is, do I look like or resemble the artist I am trying to impersonate. If so, and you also have a decent voice then you are well on your way to being a successful tribute artist.

If you lack a decent voice but you look like the artist you are trying to impersonate all is not lost. You now have two options, option one. You can seek professional vocal lessons for a while. Option two, you can forget about singing and concentrate on working as a professional lookalike.

However, let us say you have both the looks and the voice so what do I do now! How do I get work? If you have both, finding work should be quite easy but you will need to invest some cash. You will need some professional photos of yourself as the artist you are impersonating, a professional demo CD, business cards, posters, flyers and if you have the budget for it a website. All of the above mentioned needs to be high quality. It is no good sending out rubbish, you may only have once chance with the venue or agent you are sending your promo stuff to, first impressions count trust me.

Once you have found a list of addresses and emails to send your promotional items to, buy some labels so you can type the addresses and print them out. It looks so much more professional especially if you are not a very good writer! Like me.

Once you have sent your promotional items to venues, give it at least a week, if by then you have not heard anything follow it up with a phone call, and ask them if they have received your promotional items and if they are interested in booking your show for their fantastic venue. A bit of charm can go a long way in this game!

Well that is all for now about finding work. All it really boils down to if you have the two key things, a decent voice and you look like the artist is simply this. Do not try cutting corners on your promotional items by trying to design things yourself, if you are not a graphic designer you will regret it! Seek out a professional and the work will come your way.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this article and I will be talking about the other things in my next article, finding agents and talking further on promotion and so on.

Kind Regards

Darren
