Finding a Niche Market - The Truth Revealed

Let's be honest for a moment. Niche Marketing is the hottest phrase in Online Marketing at the moment and there are thousands of articles and blog posts about how to find the best niches, the hot niches, and the most lucrative niches. The trouble is, most of them get the whole principle back to front and make the whole process more frustrating than it really is.

Let's take the standard approach for a second. I'll bet that most of anything you've read has said "lets take weight loss as an example" at some point in the text, and pointed out how popular that subject is. The problem is, have you ever heard anyone buy "weight loss" nor have I.

Try this simple test, ask your partner if they'd like to lose weight, and if they reply that they would, ask them where would they like to lose weight. Usually, their response is getting closer to a market, for example, "I want to lose some off my hips and thighs", "I want to lose some off my gut", etc.". Now ask them whether they want to lose it by dieting, exercise, or a magical machine that they can use while sitting on the couch. Their answer will get you even closer to a market, "I would like to diet but I love chocolate, "I would like to exercise but it takes too long", "I would love it if I could get that machine off the tv but it probably won't work". Now you have an idea of what people actually want, and an idea of their resistance to buying a solution that you now know to overcome.

This is the first way to identify the best niche market, what is being bought on the internet, or what is the hungry crowd buying. Find out who is buying what, and see if you can't get in front of them with whatever it is they are looking for. Start your keyword research only once you've understood who it is you want to market to, and what it is they are looking to buy, unless you are experienced enough to be able to identify a suitable product first, and then tap into the mindset of the person who would buy that product. For the inexperienced looking to find a niche, this is a more difficult approach but one you will adopt with more experience.

With your keyword research, you are now looking into subcategories of these markets where the competition is low enough for you to be able to build a website, rank in Google so people can find you, and sell what it is they are looking for. If you have trouble finding low competition, then get more detailed in your market, find meaningful ways to break the market into further sub-categories until you find the level of competition you think you can beat.

If you start your keyword research without any understanding of what people are buying, then you are hoping that a good keyword is what people are looking for, which is back to front, as I said earlier. What you need to be doing is finding out what people are looking for, and then hoping the keywords have low competition. Find the hungry crowd, find out what they want, then discover how to feed them the key is to marry buyers with products successfully.

Profitable niches are not found by identifying good search numbers per month with low competition, you MUST find out where the buyers are, what they want, and then find a way to get in front of them. The bonus to this approach is that you will also understand the key information your market is looking for, and their buy triggers, and your copy will reflect that superior knowledge and convert much higher.
