Finding the Perfect Niche...Where to Go (7 Tips)
There are many people out in the world looking for the perfect niche
, and wondering how they can find it. Well, I am going to dicuss with you seven ideas, of where you can look to discover a perfect niche for yourself.
If, you are scouring the web in search of a niche, then it is time to change your strategy. I am not saying you can't find a niche, just maybe you are not sure of what a profitable and perfect niche may be for you.
First, my recommendation is to go to www.dummies.com and look through their large selection of books that they publish. The reason being, is they spend millions of dollars in market research, before publishing a topic, so they can justify writing a book for that particular niche. Simply put, they have done all the research so you don't have to, just pick a topic and write your own personal views. Now this does not mean, you plagiarize the book, but get ideas, on what is written and offer your own personal advice and ideas. This is an extremely cheap way to know whether a niche is profitable and in demand, not to mention they have thousands of books to discover the perfect niche for you.
Second, you can go out and talk to business owners in your area, and find out what it is they "need" or would like to do to expand their business. This is a little more direct and time consuming, but it will give you actual advice on what businesses are looking for. Some questions to ask are:
1) Do you have an online presence? (reason being, is many companies are looking to the internet for help promoting their business)
2) What methods of promotion are you currently using to attract more visitors...or customers? (this could be newspaper, radio, social media...etc.)
3) How effective do you feel your marketing efforts are? (this is sort of a vague question, because off line advertising efforts are not easily tracked, although online can be)
4) What new products or services have you implemented into your current business model? (This can give you an idea of certain trends, as well as what is, or isn't working for them)
5) Do you feel the internet can help your business? (This is a leading question, that you can capitalize on...even if you are not a marketing guru, or professional webmaster...You can provide a local search solution...or even blog about their business to draw more attention)
There are millions of questions you can ask, and some you may not get answers for. The key here is to look for better ways to promote a business you may be interested in...or even promoting a business, may be your forte.
Third, is go to your local "super store" ie WalMart, Kmart...etc. and look to see what people are buying, or what they are selling. It can you you a niche idea, of either creating a service business for repairs of certain items...(if you are inclined to fix things)
Fourth, go to your local library, and do some reading and research on hobbies you may have, and see if their are "how to" books or magazines in your particular field of interest. It may surprise you, that their are many niches...and even
micro-niche ideas.
Fifth, is to utilize Google AdSense, you can type in a broad word...ie like "sewing", and it will spit out for you related searches as well as more relevant keywords. You can break your niche down into sub-categories, and see how many people are searching for your topic of interest as well as the number of searches per month, and even how much competition their is for your selected keyword(s). this is an awesome tool, that doesn't cost you anything to find out how viable your niche idea may be.
Sixth, if you have an idea in mind, and are passionate about it...it doesn't matter what the competition is, You have to create a "need" for your target market, albeit this may be a little more difficult, but it shouldn't stop you from following your dream. There are many new businesses being started everyday. Some are duplicates of existing business models, yet the owners find a "unique" concept or addition to how they can improve on something that already exists. This is how many traditional "brick and mortar" business start out.
Finally, go to the yellow pages of your phone book...even better get your hands on a phone book from a large metropolitan area. See what categories they have that are different from your own local phone book. This could give you ideas on new markets that aren't being addressed by your area.
Remember, the most important key on finding the "perfect niche" is to make sure you have an interest in your idea. I have seen and heard of many businesses failing, because they are in it only for the money, and not for the satisfaction it brings them. For more ideas, and strategies, feel free to visit our site:
