Finding the wise course with the Lord
Isaiah 28 starting with verse 23 reads as follows from the NIV version of the Bible:
23Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.
24 When a farmer ploughs for planting, does he plough continually? Does he keep on breaking up and harrowing the soil?
25 When he has levelled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cummin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field?
26 His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.
27Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is a cartwheel rolled over cummin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a stick.
28 Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it for ever. Though he drives the wheels of his threshing-cart over it, his horses do not grind it.
29 All this also comes from the LORD Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.
While people in this day and age might not necessarily be farming, the concepts in this passage from Isaiah still resonate to the times.
There might be a tendency to consult the Lord at apparent turns, and then just figure on riding it out from there are your own.
Grit, determination, hard work, staying with plans can be good concepts that might be erroneously taken to the extreme.
Verse 24 says," farmer ploughs for planting, does he plough continually? Does he keep on breaking up and harrowing the soil?
These verses highlight plough continually and keep on breaking up, necessary things but not on a continuous basis to convert the grain into bread..
Thankfully, this wisdom is imparted by the Lord and to this day we have the option of having bread if we want just about every day in most places of the world.
But in this day and age, there are technological wonders at hand such as the ability to hold a phone and call anywhere
Despite the advances, the same concepts presented in this passage from Isaiah hold true. There is a need for wisdom within the process itself, and as it says it verse 28, "so one does not go on threshing it for ever"
There are real time, in the moment adjustments and changes that might be needed for anything you would do, and there needs to be an ongoing wisdom about this.
This does relate to prayer in that we are not always availed of the wisdom as things come up, and may need to seek it out in prayer in a given instance.
It does seem from this passage that wisdom is given whether you ask for it or not, but the example also points to a balance and possible faltering in wisdom as presented in this example where mistakes can be make, even in continuing on with what at first seems and is good and workable. The passage is also permissive, in that the farmer takes action on his own accord, but there is still the need for ongoing wisdom as to these actions.
It does say to ask for wisdom in the epistle of James and within that passage it points out that wisdom might be lacking and there is the need to ask for it.
The wisdom could be lacking at any point and there needs to be humility in recognizing that there may be a lack of wisdom.
At the same time, it is exciting that personal wisdom from the heavens is make available and why wouldn't someone want that type of wisdom>
James Chapter 1 verse 5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
You might have wisdom, and then run out of it just like a car runs out of fuel, and needs more,
This verse from James says you will not be castigated for lacking wisdom that is isn't blameworthy to lack wisdom and you will and may be facing situations where there is a degree of lack as to your wisdom.
In some cases you just don't know, Jacob didn't know that Joseph indeed had survived, he took on face value the report that he must have been attacked by wild animals. He just didn't know and didn't have the means to follow through. And find out otherwise.

For example, I may like where I live, but there are other places and wisdom about possibly moving is something I can consider asking for, or pausing for a moment and checking into it in prayer.
If someone had the opportunity to have Albert Einstein to consult with them on things, they would take the wisdom and consider it.
Seeking wisdom from the Lord isn't going to be totally obligatory. It might be wise to move to another country or state, but even if you have wisdom to do this, you might not. But at least you got the wisdom
And the wisdom imparted goes to all aspects and all facets, as show here were all facets of the farming and conversion of grain into break involve wisdom.
But a major point is that you don't want to get some wisdom at the beginning of an enterprise and follow through ad infinitum without further consultation as to whether you should continue on, and there is always going to be the need to recheck on the wisdom of your theory in its applications and specifics. Yes, maybe I should still run regularly but not in hurricanes and now putting all the emphasis on distance or running the same exact course and mileage daily.
Yes, maybe this was a good field to work in for the last few years, but global and technological changes warm me that I better get ready to do something else work wise and this is looking like it is running its course.
Yes, I am talented at this, but I may also be ignoring other talents that are real and carry important but putting my total emphasis on this alone
Wisdom can come in on the nooks and crannies with just about anything. And I might lack wisdom, I might get stuck in the mud, but there is the real time presence of the Lord to give wisdom right there and there and going forward
It is important to believe in the idea of wisdom not only for now but also for later on. I might not take a trip for example that could be great, if I feel the roads will be too uncertain on later points of the trip, I might nix the whole trip because of the uncertainty as to things supplying in.
Verse 29 says
29 All this also comes from the LORD Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom
This wisdom and this council or advice, is always going to be both wonderful and magnificent and you don't have to worry about bad advice or no so great ideas.
While seeking advice and wisdom from the Lord, you can complement the Lord on how great this advice and wisdom will continue to be, ask the Lord for that magnifent wisdom and wonderful advice cited here in these verses.
The Lord's wisdom is out there, you or I may not personally know exactly how this new technology works, such as texting through the air but the wisdom of the Lord enabled people to create these things that we are using right now and that same wisdom can come closer to home for your more personal affairs. Or the very basics such at the bakery still involves the wisdom of the baker for the purveyors of bread.
Then also, in prayer for others, you can seek wisdom from the Lord as to how and what to pray for in the manner of intercession and also ask for wisdom for others as the intercessor.
But the verse from James is very personalized, it is you that lacks the wisdom and it is you that can get it both for yourself and for others by calling upon the generous hand of the Lord for it.
