Finnair Strike Update: Day Three Begins

The airline has been hardly managing to operate countable flights during the course

of strike that is said to be costing loss of more than 2 to 2.5 million Euros a day. The airlines spokes person Hanna-Kaisa Nurmi told AFP: "This affects around 7,800 passengers today".

As its the peak holiday season time, the number of people effected by Finnair cabin crew strike is mounting every passing day starting from effecting 6,000 people on Tuesday, 10,000 on Wednesday and estimated 7,800 today.

The strike that began on Tuesday afternoon is said to be over issues with scheduling as cabin crew opposes the airlines plan to undermine the system of compensatory days off that employees for long-haul flights were currently provided with. The airlines SAS Subsidiary airline Blue 1 entered the first phase of negotiations with cabin crew on strike, however no latest move from any side has been established to proceed negotiations and close the matter.

According to AFP news, spokesperson for Finnair Mr. Nurmi stated that there had been no word as to when state labor mediator Esa Lonka would reconvene talks between Finnair and the Finnish Cabin Crew Union, after talks broke down early Tuesday.

The airlines stand is that, Finnairs unions demands will make it too difficult to operate in the competitive environment and unless the company could make significant cost-cutting measures and agree on a favorable labor contract, the company would have to look into outsourcing operations and jobs to countries with cheaper labor costs, as said by the CEO of Finnair.

The Finland based airline operates flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, New York City, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Toronto, Stockholm, Venice, Vienna, Warsaw, Munich and other important destinations worldwide.
