In order to protect the chrome trim present on the appliances, a coating of Vaseline or any other oil really helps and can keep the appliances from further damage before the restoration company arrives for the cleanup job.

Limit movement and keep hands clean

While it is important to move around your entire house to estimate the damage caused by the fire and smoke, it also remains extremely important that you dont allow the soot particles from being embedded on the carpets and upholstery. Cover carpets and rugs with clean towels

In order to better protect the carpet, rugs and upholstery from getting further layers of soot once you enter the house, it is a great idea to actually place clean towels over them so that the towels prevent any further soot from deposition on them. This might lead to your towels getting a layer of soot as well but this would be temporary, as the restoration company workers would put it right for you once they arrive.

By taking these simple and easy-to-implement measures, you can actually limit fire damage to a certain extent and not allow any deterioration until the cleanup job is performed.
