Fire Your Boss In 2010 And Prosper Like You Never Have

In a time when everyone is terrified of unemployment

, leaving the daily grind and becoming your own boss is becoming increasingly popular. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), self-started businesses generated 70% of new jobs over the past decade.

The lay-offs have made people think, "What the heck am I working for?" Workers are starting to consider the downsides of slaving away for corporations and are questioning why they should be working so hard for someone else, building someone else's future, rather than their own. Company downsizing and employee layoffs can happen without a moments notice, leaving the typical employee nothing to show for all of the hard work and commitment.

What are the real cons of 9 to 5 employment?

1. The boss is never happy with the results of what you can actually accomplish in a regular 8 hour workday. They are always pushing you to do more and pinching the minutes.

2. Idealism and creativity have no place in the typical workplace. They have their working plan in order and do not want it disturbed. They reasonably justify this with "it's how we do things and it makes money, we're not about to change now."

3. Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. With a to-do list that's a mile long, you're interrupted with a stream of "mandatory" meetings that are completely unrelated to you.

4. There is no getting out into the world, you are chained to your tiny work desk for 8 hours a day. You are solely considered a part of the pack and are no longer an individual.

5. You have no reason to feel special at your job even if you are a top performer. Those days of being an asset to the company are being replaced by others with a better resume or degree.

6. Your earning potential is limited. Your salary limits how much you can make. No matter how much overtime you put in, your earnings don't increase.

7. When you are on the clock, you belong to someone else. They own you. There is always someone that knows what you are doing and if it isn't in the best interest of the company, you could lose your job over it.

8. You cannot break the work mold no matter how good your ideas are for a new way of doing something. If it goes against the grain, it probably goes against the company.

9. A personal life is unheard of when it conflicts with the hours of your 9 to 5 grind. You cannot skip the after hours, mandatory meeting just to have dinner with your family, even if it was just announced 5 minutes earlier.

10. Boring, boring, boring could describe the very fiber of your work existence. You wonder how many times you have filed the same paperwork and you will continue the monotony as long as you confine yourself to the pack.

Does any of the above sound familiar? If it does, you are definitely not alone. If this rings true, begin to explore all of your options. People who start their own businesses have the freedom to designate what they do each day and when they do it. They have the freedom to make decisions and get projects done, without all the office politics. By becoming your own boss, you take charge of your life and ultimately take control of your destiny.
