Firm Starts Recycling Ink Cartridges

A company has enhanced its green credentials by embarking on an initiative under which ink cartridges are recycled.

Two Rivers Housing has launched the scheme thanks to the input of its Environmental Action Group, 24dash reports.

The team comprises staff members and managers and it was set up last year.

Its aim is to implement cost effective, energy efficient and eco-friendly policies for the office environment by encouraging workers to play their part and reduce the amount of waste produced on a daily basis.

As well as bringing in a programme under which printer ink cartridges are recycled, it has succeeded in introducing measures such as alternative travel to work days and the replacement of bottled water with in-line filters to save on delivery emissions.

Commenting on the efforts of the business, Sue Barter - who is part of the Environmental Action Group - said: "Our executive team have volunteered to lead by example in our latest initiative by giving up their waste paper bins in favour of reusing paper where possible and using specially provided recycling bins instead."

Meanwhile, chief executive of the housing enterprise Garry King said: "The research we have been conducting into building greener homes has highlighted that we could be doing more and thinking about what we are throwing away."

Small changes around the office can help the enterprise reduce its waste - including ink cartridges - and do its bit for the planet, he added.

Established in 2003, Two Rivers Housing is based in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire and is responsible for managing around 3,700 homes for single individuals, families, older people and key workers. It employs a total of around 135 staff.

The organisation is by no means alone in its efforts to become greener - with firms across the world seeking to enhance their environmental credentials.
