Many organisations use leaflet distribution services in order to increase consumer awareness of their offerings and draw in more money.

Indeed, door to door leaflet distribution can be a cheap and effective marketing tool and has been popular for some time.

However, when making use of such advertising, it is important that businesses observe the necessary rules laid out by the authorities.

This has been illustrated by the case of one company that uses leaflet distribution services in the south of England.

According to a report in the Oxford Times, non-profit firm the Air Ambulance Service has been ordered to reword material developed for a door to door leaflet distribution campaign.

The changes are intended to ensure that people know they are not donating to an air ambulance charity.

Recently, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance revealed concerns that donors were confusing the charity with the Air Ambulance Service, which had produced leaflets carrying images of red helicopters.

These were said to be similar to the charity's logo, meaning some people may have confused the two.

Now, Oxfordshire Trading Standards has launched an investigation and told managers at the Chiltern Air Ambulance to alter the content of the leaflet.

Anthony Durkin, director of the firm, said: "Air Ambulance Service is a not-for-profit organisation.

"We are working towards providing the general public in the UK with a national patient transfer service for those who are caught in difficult medical circumstances, a patient being hospitalised in another city or country after having an unfortunate accident, serious medical condition or illness."

He went on to note that this service is not usually covered by the NHS, air ambulance charities or insurance providers.

Mr Durkin also stated that the company relies on small payments made by clothing collection companies in order to cover the cost of these ambulance provisions.
