First Impressions - The uPVC Front Door
If you live in the UK, you must be aware of the severe damage that the weather does to the doors and windows of our homes
. This means that no matter how well we decorate the interior of our home, the exterior appearance can deteriorate into a bad state. This often leaves a very bad impression on guests and passers-by, (the first impression is often a lasting impression). This is why it is time that we took matters into our own hands and started using uPVC front doors and windows.
These doors are made of un-plasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, a revolutionary new compound that does not contain softening elements. This makes it a perfect candidate for building solid structures. In doors, for example, its level of durability is surpassed only by that of composite doors (which are made by selecting the best characteristic of multiple materials). As for maintenance, these products never rust nor do they require sanding, regrouting, painting or varnishing (unlike wooden frames). All they require is a simple wash and wipe to bring back their original good looks. The advantages of these products do not end here.
uPVC Front Doors: uPVC the Material
uPVC is also known as rigid PVC because of its ability to survive high pressure conditions. This makes it a popular building material in countries like the UK and USA (where it may be commonly used as cladding or vinyl siding, respectively). It can be produced in several colours, including one that provides a photo effect wood finish to the design. Its unique properties have led it to completely replace cast iron as the primary material for making drain pipes, waste pipes, down pipes and gutters.
Another advantage of this material is that it is completely
recyclable. This means that the uPVC present in the doors and windows can be easily reshaped into pipes and other products for further use. It can be used for other building products as well, such as:
Fascia: This architectural unit also provides a fixing point to support the gutter just below the roof.
Cladding: Long planks of uPVC are used to cover the walls of the house to protect it from the harm caused by the damaging action of the weather. The use of cladding can increase the face value of the house. This is yet another place where uPVC has successfully replaced traditional hard wood as the preferred raw material.
Some Common Issues with
upvc front door and Windows, and their Solution
The best material for making doors and windows is uPVC. However, in the long run, some problems are bound to arise. Listed below are some common issues and their possible solutions:
1. Difficulty while locking the uPVC window or door: This issue is generally caused by improper alignment of the door or the window with its frame. This can be solved by simply realigning the hinges of the door or window.
2. Faulty handle that won't open the door or window: This can be caused by rough treatment of the handle. There is a very high possibility of damage being done directly to the spindle, in which case a new locking unit might be required. You can prevent this from happening by taking precautionary action from the time you find that the door or window has become stiff in its movement.
3. Doors that can only be locked and unlocked from one side: Although this could be a simple issue, it may require a complete replacement of the old locking system.
The unique features of uPVC also make it a perfect candidate for constructing lean to conservatories. You can use these structures to economically grow your living area into your backyard. For those of use with growing families, this is an ideal way to gain space with the need for searching for a bigger home in an already expensive property market.
