Exercising on your own is fine but it can get a little boring after a while which can affect your motivation to continue

. To avoid this, contact your friends and ask them to join in with you. By having people involved you can have a greater variety of team sports to play. If you have a family ask other families you know to join in and make it a big social occasion. This also helps with staying motivated because you are enjoying the company of others. You will be more committed as you are less likely to cancel because you will be letting other people down.

Start up a mini league with competitions and tournaments with families who live close by. At the end of the season there could a tournament final with prizes to award.

If you have a big family organise a couple of home tournaments. This can include opposing teams with boys against girls or children against the parents. There is nothing more motivating for the children than having the opportunity to beat their parents at something.

Recent studies have shown that girls tend to prefer indoor sports especially, if the weather outside is not very good. If you have a family of girls then consider signing up for indoor activities that include badminton, volley ball or trampolining.


Your kids feed off how you feel when it comes to sports. If you are not too bothered or motivated enough they will probably feel the same way to. Therefore, make the effort to get motivated as your kids will feed off your energy and excitement. This will make your children more likely to take part and enjoy the exercises.

A good way to get your family involved in keeping fit and helping people less fortunate is to take part in sporting charity events. These can include mini marathons, sports days and galas. The family can train together during the build up to the main event.

Take advantage of the beautiful and natural places that surround you. If the sun is out and it is nice and warm then, take the whole family down to the beach. This is a great place to enjoy the fresh air and play lots of family games including beach volley ball and rounders. You can organise a mini sports day with a competition that includes record breakers to determine who can run the fastest, leap the greatest distance and jump the highest.
