Fitting Parking Sensors To Your Car

Fitting parking sensors to your car is a relatively easy job

, which most people can easily do with the proper tools and a spare hour or two.

You can buy a rear-facing parking sensor kit for under 100, so they represent good value for money. If you pay more you can get a kit to fit sensors to both the front and rear of the car. When you consider that knocking your car whilst parking is very common and that due to the excess on your policy you effectively end up paying for the repair yourself it makes sense to fit parking sensors.

The cheaper kits tend to be easier to fit than the more expensive, sophisticated kits, and for most people the cheaper kits are more than adequate. The cheaper parking sensor kits usually only have a rear-facing sensor, which is fitted either into the bumper itself or underneath it. The majority of drivers have no problem judging how close the front of their vehicle is to the car in front, but hit the car behind when parking.

To fit most kits you need to drill at least one hole in your bumper, and then attach 2 cables from the sensors to your rear light cluster. If you are not confident that you can do that, look online for a demonstration video of how to do it, watch it then make up your mind. YouTube is a good place to find that type of video. Alternatively, look at the fitting instructions before you buy the kit, if you can understand the instructions easily you can fit the sensors yourself.

Most retailers, including on-line retailers will fit the parking sensor kit for you. They charge 30-65 for doing so, a garage or mobile mechanic will charge a similar amount.
