1. Gyms - whether you choose large city gyms such as Birmingham gyms or small, village variations, there's no doubt that attending a gym or health club on a regular basis is a fantastic way to get fit and healthy.
It can be the most expensive option, but it's this cost which is one of the factors that many people sign up - if they're paying 40 or 50 pounds a month for a membership, they're going to be motivated to go to ensure that they get the most for their money.
2. Walking - an exercise that everyone can do, all you need to do is put on a pair of a comfy shoes and start walking.
You don't need to pay for a membership, you don't need any equipment and no mater where you are in the world, you can increase your fitness levels by walking.
Some people do find it boring, but take with you a CD or MP3 player and you'll find that you can walk happily for hours.
3. Working out at home - a popular option particularly through the winter months, there's a substantial amount of home exercise equipment that you can purchase, available for a range of different budgets, all of which should help you exercise regularly during the year.
4. Swimming - widely considered to be one of the best forms of exercise anyone can do, swimming works out a whole range of different muscles in your body.
You don't have to go out pretending to be an Olympic swimmer, either - an hour swimming a few lengths doing the breast stroke a few times a week is a fantastic form of exercise.
5. Playing a sport - if you're a fan of any physically demanding sport, taking it up as a hobby is a great - and fun - way to get healthy.
Don't worry if you think the sport isn't particularly mainstream, either or you believe you're too old to play it - ask around your local health and fitness community and you'll be surprised at just how many people are interested in your sport and play it regularly, irrelevant of their age.
