Five Easy Tips for Making Enough Time for Your Goals
Five Easy Tips for Making Enough Time for Your Goals
There just aren't enough hours in the day!How many times have you heard someone say that as they struggle to get done the things that they want. It may be something you've uttered yourself in desperation as your well-intentioned goals seem to be moving ever further away from attainment.Well let's consider just how many hours you do have. Scientists claim that the optimum amount of sleep for the average adult is 7 hours and that 7 to 8 hours is normal. That leaves you sixteen hours awake each day. Now obviously there are other things you must do like washing, eating, and attending to your household chores. Let's assume that takes another two hours out of your day. That still leaves fourteen hours and even if you are in a job that takes up ten hours each weekday you're still left with 4 hours in the week and possibly the whole of that fourteen on Saturday and Sunday.Even if you have to work six days a week you should still have around thirty-eight hours available for other activities. I'll let you do the sums to see just how much time you have in a month or a year. It's a lot, so why do you struggle to find the time to do what you really want?Normally it's simply because you have not actually worked out what time you have available and how you can use it to work on your goals. If they are truly important to you then you must do so. You must take control of your time. One of the secrets of effective time management is to split your goals, plans, tasks, etc into workable projects and then have a realistic plan for getting them done. Here are five tips to help you:1. Ensure you always plan ahead. Use a diary or journal and schedule the dates when you are to carry out certain tasks. It may be that you need to do something next week, next month or even on a date next year. It really doesn't matter, just be sure to have it planned and written down.2. Allocate enough time to complete your projects. If you set unrealistic deadlines it will only act to make you less efficient. So think about everything that really has to be accomplished to get a project done. Write each thing down, and schedule the right amount of time accordingly. If you know how much free time you have, you can set a realistic time-scale. When you do this it's always important to consider what elements are dependant upon other people and making sure that they too will have enough time.3. Don't be unrealistic. Don't expect to be able to get too much done each work session and set achievable targets for each part of the project. You'll find that you will be far more productive if you work in short bursts.4. Take time to recharge your batteries. If you work on something that is important when you are over-tired it will always be counter-productive - any mistakes you make will have to be corrected later and might prove costly. So take regular breaks and get right away from your work. A short exercise break, like going for a walk or a run, can work wonders!5. When you finish each part and especially when the whole project is completed do something to reward yourself. It's not important what it is - a round of golf, a nice meal, even just a long soak in the tub - just do it! You will see the benefits as you move onto the next task.As long as the goals you have set for yourself are based upon what you really want in your life, you will find the hours to turn them into reality. So make a plan and stick to it!
