To successfully navigate the college athletic recruiting process you must have a plan and execute all phases of the plan. Remember Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Execute the steps below, to increase your prospects for a college scholarship, grant or financial aid.
1) Create a Student-athlete Profile
Your Student-athlete Profile should highlight your academic and athletic accomplishments with a special emphasis on your awards and honors.
2) Identify 30-50 Colleges (or more) to Contact
For maximum exposure, identify all schools that are a match for your academic and athletic abilities and personal preferences.
3) Market Yourself to Coaches
Coaches want to hear from you. Send personal letters, then follow-up by phone and email. Also post your student-athlete profile online for coaches to find you.
4) Create a Highlight Video
Your 3-5 minute highlight video should demonstrate your athletic skills and provide all the key academic, athletic and personal information a coach or recruiter needs to make an initial evaluation.
5) Follow-up with Coaches to Land an Offer
Be sure to stay in touch with coaches that show an interest in you. Always respond promptly to letters of interest, emails and phone calls. Complete and return all questionnaires and keep coaches updated with your accomplishments.
