Where are you in five years? It is important to set clear career goals, as it makes the job meaningful. Once your goals are identified, you will know exactly what courses and training you need for them to be realized. It will reinforce your self-confidence and the possibility of salary increase.
3. Get to know your colleagues
Become friends with your colleagues. It can help to strengthen the feeling of being a part of a team, rather than working alone. It doesn't mean that you should hang out with your colleagues 24 hours a day, but in a working environment good friends/colleagues can be a fantastic support when things go wrong.

Take chances and be different. Do some things that you at first are nervous about. It may be to invite your boss out for lunch, ask for a higher salary or take the lead in a high-profile project. Such actions can help you to promote your career opportunities.
