Fixed Layout Or Responsive Layout, Which One Is The Best Option For Designing Your Next Website?
There are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to website design
. As a web designer, sometimes you may have to choose from either fixed website layout or responsive website layout, based on clients requirements.
Whether you choose a fixed website or a responsive website, it will affect the overall website design as well as information architecture within the website. Therefore, it becomes very critical for web designers to choose the right one in order to avoid issues at a later point as well as design a website that fits in the clients requirements.
However, if you are not able to make a decision and wish to know which one is better between these two, then do have a look at the points discussed below.
Responsive Website Layout:
A Responsive website layout is usually referred to as a liquid layout and contains all the design components in percentage width and thus, it helps website designers to design web pages or websites that stretches itself based on the screen resolution of the users.
Responsive designs are not so popular amongst designers due to certain reasons, but it offers some benefits as well . Web sites designed using this layout are highly user-friendly as it adjusts itself based on the users screen resolution. Moreover, it eliminates extra white space in the browser, which makes website look more appealing. In addition, it helps to get rid of the horizontal scrollbar.
But, with responsive designs, designers cant figure out how the website they have designed will look on users screen. Moreover, designers may have set widths of all the design elements to cope up with different screen resolutions.
Fixed Website Layout:
On the other hand, fixed designs as the name suggests have fixed width and looks similar in different screen resolutions. Fixed designs are very easy to use & customized as per website requirements and help designers to have total control over it. As widths are fixed, designers dont have to worry about min-width or max-width.
However, users having smaller screen size or resolution and may have to scroll the web page horizontally, which sometimes annoys users. Also, users having a wider screen may find more white space within the website.
Which one to choose?
It is not possible to assess any of these two as each has some negative & positive points. However, the choice could depend on the purpose and requirements of the website. If you wish to design a website that can smoothly run on all the screen sizes then responsive layouts are the best or else fixed are always a great choice.
