To maintain the warranty, most manufacturers require that you bring your car to their approved service facilities, otherwise the warranty might be considered void. Sometimes, as part of the deal when you buy a new car, many new dealerships include some level of maintenance service. Oil changes, fluid checks and sometimes even tire rotation may be included in the package.

If your car is beyond the warranty period, you may desire to find a qualified service and repair shop that will cost a bit less in labor charges. If you decide to seek out an alternative service repair location instead of a specific manufacturer's dealer representative, then ensure the automotive mechanics are ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified. This means that the mechanic working on your car has passed testing on various aspects of automotive repair and maintenance and has had extensive training on the subject matter. ASE certified professionals have mastered their craft in their area of specialty from specific engines to drive train and body work. Most ASE mechanics display their certification documents, or have an embroidered patch on their work clothes displaying their certification status.

The goal is to get your vehicle repaired correctly and get you back on the road quickly at the lowest expenditure possible. Taking a few moments to check out your repair options can save you money and the possible headache from a faulty repair job.
