Flight Control With Actuators
Aircraft engineering is flying blue skies and touching the pinnacle of technology
. Technology is indeed developing in the right manner with its new inventions; use of actuators is done for controlling the movements of an aircraft. Maximize the output by installing actuators which can understand the requirements of the pilot for guiding the aircraft. On board computer controls the additional functioning of parts installed for flying the aircraft. Reduce the overall stress faced for flying airplanes at greater heights, auto-pilot mode ensures to work flawlessly as these actuators are delivering good numbers. Lots of things have been said about actuators that they fail and do not deliver that accurate quality but products with high-end engineering are performing spectacularly well.
A modern aircraft consists of panels which require movements; the use of actuators comes into effect immediately when the pilot has engaged the required control. This article will broadly talk on those parts which help in smooth functioning of an aircraft, hang on and ready more.
Airplane flaps control most of the airplane; with the use of these flaps it is easy to fly the airplane. There are four functions involved that are related to air flaps.
Reduce stall Speed This is one of the important functions of the air flap which is being installed on the airplane. Stall speed is nothing but the forward moving capability of an aircraft. To reduce its speed, the stall flap is raised. Air passing through the flap immediately changes its course and creates a drag which eventually slows down the aircraft.
Increase or decrease the angle of aircraft- Flying and landing of the aircraft is controlled by this one flap which is being installed on the end of the wings. Lowering or rising of the flap ensures the airplane to lift off or land according to requirements. The pressure exerted is tremendous and can rupture the wing if it is not backed by a pressurized actuator. 12V Actuator are used which are automatically controlled and come into effect after the application of an electric charge.
Pitch reduction during landing Landing of an aircraft is the most difficult task to do, the pilot needs to pay full concentration when completing this task. One wrong move can create a huge disaster, actuators help in lowering the nose of the airplane which is about to land. This technology was famous in airplanes like Concorde. The front nose section use to dive down giving additional view of the runway in front. The pilot can then maneuver the aircraft for further descent.
Reverse Thrusting Once the aircraft has landed reverse thrusting can be engaged to lower the aircraft speed. Reverse thrusting direction is controlled by actuators installed in the wings of the aircraft.
These are some of the finest development of technology being incorporated in aircrafts. To give you additional knowledge, these actuators are maintenance free.
