Flokati rugs are strong and can take a lot of foot traffic, dirt and stains. Being made of 100% pure wool and hand-woven, they can last for over 30 years. However, to have your Flokati rug looking it's best, some cleaning and care for your Flokati rug will be required on occasion.

Skake your Flokati rug

Every once in a while, take your Flokati rug outside and give it a good shake. If you've got someone to help you, each take a side of the rug and start shaking it together.

If you don't have anyone else to help you, take your Flokati rug and put it on the clothes line and peg down one side of the rug. Take the other side and start shaking it. You will probably notice dust coming out from the rug.

After you've given your rug a good shake with someone, or by yourself, leave the Flokati rug in the shade for a couple of hours to absorb some of the fresh air. Don't leave your Flokati rug in the sun. Too much sun on a Flokati rug can discolour your rug. It may start to look yellow.

When you bring your Flokati rug back inside, it be fluffier, cleaner and fresher.

Getting stains out of your Flokati rug

Getting stains out of a Flokati rug is a lot easier than getting stains of synthetic carpet.

If the stain has just occurred and it's from a glass of orange juice, red wine or something like that, get a white paper towel. Dab the white paper towel over the liquid stain to remove any excess moisture.

Don't rub the paper towel into the Flokati rug as it will drive the liquid, and the stain, deeper into the Flokati rug.

After you've removed the excess moisture, fill a bucket with cold or lukewarm water mixed with mild detergent. Remember that your Flokati rug is made of pure wool. Don't use bleach as it will harm the wool fibers.

Get a small scrub brush with soft bristles and gently scrub the stained area until the stain is removed. You will find that it doesn't take much to get the stains out of a Flokati rug.
