Fly Fishing Basics - Getting Started

One of the most commonly shared hobbies, fishing has been a popular one for generations

. This is especially true when it comes to area which has a lake, to emphasize my point of it being popular; it's almost rare that you do not actually already know someone who is a big fishing fan! Fly fishing is not different from regular fishing; it is only a variation of it.

While you might be frightened by the thought of it, it is actually very easy to learn and pick up, once you've understood some of the basics you are almost ready to hit the lake and get started! This article will talk about some of the basics you need to know.

The first thing you want to understand that there is a difference between the rods used in fly fishing and just normal fishing. You will normally find that fly fishing rods are taller and thinner in general, and they are actually heavier than your normal rods. This is especially true for those rods used in catching saltwater fishes.

Next you want to know is that the reel is also different from your regular reel, as such make sure that you understand the differences between the two and make the purchased only when you are sure, as getting the wrong equipments can make fly fishing harder than it needs be.


The fishing lines used in fly fishing is also different from just normal fishing lines, fly fishing lines are usually larger and more visible, there can even comes in different colors! When determining which lines to use, be sure to understand how your prey normally feeds and find one that is most suitable for it.

In terms of lure, fly fishing usually employs artificial lures and not real living lures, and they are usually tied to the end of the tippet. That is just a monofilament line that you tie at the end of your fishing line. When choosing your lure, be sure to take into factor of what insects actually lives in that area, this way you will most likely have more success because the fishes will not be as suspecting when you choose to use the wrong type of lures.
