Foam: The Safest Of Materials

Aside from the fact that it is both flexible and cheap to buy

, one of the major reasons why foam is used so extensively in todays domestic and commercial spheres is that it is also extremely safe.

In the first place, foam is chemically inert; in other words in its normal state it neither gives off harmful chemicals nor reacts with chemicals in the atmosphere.

Secondly, for situations where infants may be present, the possibility of choking can be largely eliminated by ensuring that the foam in question is polyether foam or another of the tear-resistant varieties.

Thirdly, foam, consisting as it does of countless air bubbles or cells, is extremely lightweight. It therefore presents very little injury risk as a consequence of being thrown or dropped.

Finally, most foam is highly resistant to fungal or bacterial contamination.

In the commercial and public spheres, using foam cut to size for various applications is a much favoured option when hosting either promotional events or other activities involving staff or members of the public; particularly in a world where risk assessments continually demand that full attention is always given to health and safety issues.

Examples of foam being used in this context include large foam hands and giveaway items such as stress balls or stress toys. Foam also lends itself well to safe and lightweight - but highly effective and durable - lettering and signage, whether used outside or in.

The added advantages of using products made from foam are that it is relatively straightforward for foam suppliers to produce foam products in a range of attractive colours, and also to print corporate logos or other relevant communications on to the surface of the foam.

At Technical Foam Services we look forward to discussing your foam product requirements and to ensuring that all options used are the safest possible.
