Social media marketing and networking can be a powerful and profitable tool, and you can link all of the different media together to support each other to promote your business, blog, or website. Here are some ideas on how to make Twitter work for you.

Add Links

Do you have a website, yet? Or a blog? You can add the Twitter logo to both of these and invite your fans to follow you. Do the same with your email signature, business cards, brochures, and any other printed material you distribute.

Don't Forget to Tweet

Set aside 5 minutes a day to tweet. It doesn't sound like much, but, for one thing, it will make you stay in touch and for another thing, it will keep you from being a pest. Zeke Camusio with The Outsourcing Company says that if you start to lose followers, you're either not tweeting enough, you're tweeting too much, or you're boring. Zeke also says that you should tweet at least once a day, but not more than 10 times, or you may get annoying.

What Should You Tweet?

Strangely enough, you should tweet just about anything. It doesn't have to be strictly business information, although you shouldn't neglect that aspect, of course. If you have content that you find interesting from someone else, re-tweet it. Send it on to your followers. The whole concept behind tweeting is that people want to keep in touch with you and know what you're doing. By sharing a photo of a funny road sign while you're on tour, you reinforce a pleasant association with your name in the minds of your followers. You connect with them, again, without asking anything from them. Knowing your niche makes a big difference, and will help determine what you tweet. Other ideas for tweet content are: (1) Resources-If you've just found a great resource that has inspired or informed you, share it with your followers. Don't worry about them beating you to the punch on an idea, because people seldom get the same inspiration from a source. Besides, your followers will love to watch how you take the germ of an idea and develop it in your business, blog, or website. (2) Specials-Run a special available only to your followers on Twitter. (3) Events-keep your followers posted on upcoming events that relate either to your product or to product-related events. (4) Contests-Twitter has the ability to inform you on how many re-tweets you have. Run a contest benefitting whomever re-tweets the most.
