The way we dress, the choice of the jewelry we wear

, and even how we set our hair, all these we think are pretty personal and unique. But how really unique are they? Why does a girl go through all the trouble looking for a skirt of a particular cut? Why does she choose to wear this style of necklace? What made her suddenly cut off the long hair she had been keeping all these years?

There are many underlying reasons for a girl to follow a certain fashion. She may simply copy the style of her elder sister, her mother, or her aunt. Or she might copy the way her classmate, especially the ones she secretly admires, wears. But for most teenagers and those who are older usually copy, not those that are at home or at school, or even at work, but the ones they see on TV, concerts, and in the movies. The pop stars and the celebrities are the icons of many girls and older

women alike, models which they knowingly or unknowing follow.

The famous pink diamond ring of Norma Shearer, the enchanting wedding gown of Princess Di, and the beautiful texture of the hair the Japanese Pop Queen Amuro Namie are just a few examples that have captivated the hearts of young girls and older women a like. Even one with a rebellious outlook will keep a rebel as her icon.

Rephrasing the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, I would like to ask, We would never know how much real influence the fashion idols have on individual or collective styles, but we would also never know what styles will remain if there were no idols to look up to. But what is certain is that, people will go on following their leaders.
